Dance Instructor

Born and raised in Tampa, Florida, Evelyn Washburn began dancing at the age of 4, training in multiple styles of dance. She was a member of her studio’s competitive team for 11 years, which allowed her to not only attend competitions across the east coast, but learn from and perform pieces by renowned choreographers such as Marinda Davis, Zachary Heller and AJ Deneka. She was also a member of the Classical Ballet of Tampa, with whom she performed in ballets such as The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. She continued her competitive dance journey as a member of the Florida State University Golden Girls where she performed both on the sidelines of football and basketball games and for the jazz nationals team.

Evelyn recently graduated from Florida State University with her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance. During her time in the FSU School of Dance, she served her community as the Public Relations director for the Student Advisory Council, and was also a member of the Community Arts Initiative. She performed in School of Dance’s Evening of Dance and Days of Dance, while also acting as stage manager and assisting in filming performances as a member of the school’s Documentation Crew. In her studies, she found a passion for the Dance Sciences where she was able to work closely with Dr. Tom Welsh to study injury risk and prevention for collegiate dancers and dive into the world of Pilates.

She is so happy to be back in Tampa, sharing her passion for dance with all of her students and is currently working towards earning her Pilates certification so she can share her passion for rehabilitative practices as well. She looks forward to her second year with Ignite and seeing everyone in her Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Musical Theater classes!
